31/3/2009 spring breakit's a new quarter again. seems like i'm already used to the quarter system... anyway, me and adele went to nyc for spring break. we lived in jersey for it's cheaper and our friends are there. on the first day, we went to a mall in jersey. it is awesome that jersey doesn't tax on clothes. we end up buying many stuff. and when i went to victoria's secret, i applied a credit card and obtained a huge purse for free, which is originally worth $150 of value. oh, and we are so bored that we went to macy's and tried many dresses. XD on the second day, we went to a chinese restaurant in china town for dim sum, and then went to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). later on during the trip, we realized that we probably should to to metropolitan first, but since MoMA is in midtown and closer to the bus terminal, we went w/o thinking... there was this crazy performance artist who locked himself in a cube for a year w/o talking with others. from the name, he seems to be chinese, either from hong kong or taiwan, not sure. and he did it with his friend providing him the meals. after that, he did many others, such as stay outside for a year with only a sleeping bag (yes, in nyc) and not suppose to go into the building; attached with a woman for a year but not suppose to touch each other, etc. i can't even remember all those, but they are all crazy. 变态…… and there are people put cheese or sausage on the paper and then sealed it in 1980s, and now, it is an art work hanging on the wall of MoMA. that was so nasty, i don't even want to put the picture here. at the end of that museum visit, i determined that modern art is not in my favorite list... after that, we went to time square, but for some reason, when we turned to see rockefellor center, we missed the direction. so our route is like 53rd st.(MoMA) -> 56th st.(trying to find the restaurant for dinner) -> 44th st.(the church and stuff) -> 55th st.(walked wrong direction) -> 32nd st.(trying to find time square) -> 42nd st.(found time square) -> 56th st.(went to dinner) -> 42nd st.(back to time square for night scene seeing and then go to bus terminal located on the same st.). of course, we also walk in between 7th ave. and 5th ave. several times. even a person like me, who walked through the entire san francisco city, felt super tiring. above is St. Patrick Cathedral, below is time square, oh! there's this guy, dressed up as statue of liberty, standing at time square. you have to give him 3 dollars to take a picture with him. on the third day, we went to woodbury outlet mall in nyc. we only go there b/c they have so many cheap stuff (come on, it's outlet!), and again, we spent a lot of money. i bought something for my parents too. then on the forth day, i don't even know what we were thinking, but we decide to visit 2 museums on one day. since the subway station we got off has a door leading directly into Museum of Natural History, we went in there for 2 hours. after this, we crossed the central park. since it's still winter there--yeah, i'm from southern california, where there's only spring and summer--it looked sad... that ballet dancer is not a statue. it's a human (sorry about using "it", we really couldn't tell if it's she or he, since s/he dressed up as she, i'll use she from now on). she stood still, even w/o eyes blinking. if you put 1 dollar in her tip bucket, she will perform a little ballet dance for you, w/o moving her feet. and finally, after twisting direction and walking to nowhere in central park, we went to the metropolitan museum. it was so huge for us to finish in one day...plus, after four days of walking, our feet can not feel anything...but we saw a lot of things that can only be seen on textbook before. it worth it. on the last day of our trip, we went to west river, jersey side, just to view manhattan. even though it is the 3rd time i've been to nyc, i still went to a lot of place that i've never been. think about it now, it's really a fun trip--yeah, especially the part that i walked from midtown to downtown, and then walk around in uptown... |
